Cody came in the barn. He smelt the smell of horses and smiled. He sat down on a bench and waited patiently till his new instructor came.

Lilly finished with her current student and walked out to meet her new student. "I'm Lilly," she said.

"Cody." He replied back. He was a gentleman. He stood up and put his hand out to shake.

"Nice to meet you," she said. "Now how much riding experience have you had?"

"I've trotted before, but never cantered." Cody replied.

Lilly nodded, "Okay, then today you'll be riding Shawnee. She's kind of fat right now, but she's a great horse. I bet you'll love."

Cody smiled. "Ok." He started heading towards the stables like her knew where he was going.

She walked right up to Shawnee's stall and said, "You know how to tack up, right?"

"Sure do. My sister Amber taught me, with a little help from Melissa." Cody grabbed the halter he saw hanging on Shawnee's door. He entered her stall. "Hi Shawnee." Cody gently patted Shawnee on the rump and slipped the halter on. He grabbed the lead rope and exited the stall, waiting for Lilly to say something.

"Okay, cross-ties are right here, her tack is in the locker with her name on it. Use the saddle on the top rack."

"I'll be in the arena, but if you need anything don't be afraid to come get me!"

"Ok" Cody began with the curry comb, then the stiff brush, soft brush, and picked the horse's hooves. He then grabbed the saddle and put it gently on her back. He had the saddle to far away from the withers, but he didn't know it. He leaned on the arena gate. "Lilly, I've never bridled a horse, can you help?"

She nodded, then came out to see and said jokingly, "Why's my horse so far forward from the saddle?" She showed him the correct place to put on a saddle, then proceeded to show him the 'tall person' way of bridling a horse.
"Stand on their left side, and hold all the extra leather away, like this." She held away from noseband and cheek straps, then said, "Put your thumb in their mouth so they open up, then pull up and the bit goes in. I would normally have you try it too, but we're a little short on time so just come on in."
